My Old House Online

An online community for people who love old houses.

Hello again,

Looking for advice for a shower enclosure for out clawfoot. It's the standard tub wall mount configuration, at the end. It came with the drain pieces attached, but I need to find a faucet/shower combination and I'd rather not spend $1000.... I see some kits online for about $180 but they seem to have mixed reviews and a lot of plastic. I would like to keep the price under $400.

I've already found suggestions for how to make the shower enclosure ring yourself if need be, but I want a decent faucet/shower riser since this will likely get daily use once installed.

Any suggestions of what to (or not to!) use? vintagetub seems to have a decent selection. Anyone have experience?

Thanks!

Contact Menyhart Plumbing in Cleveland, Ohio, at 216-631-5519.  They have all kinds of catalogs and stuff in stock that is much cheaper than the stuff online and they will ship anywhere.  I have pictures of my bathroom renovation on my member page.  My faucet/riser is brass and was hundreds of dollars cheaper than any place else.  We installed it eight years ago and use it everyday.  I only have one bathroom so this riser really gets a workout.  Back then I only paid $229 for the whole thing and Menyhart had it in stock.  They can and will email photos if you need them to.  Susan

Susan,

Thanks so much for the lead! We have family in Cleveland and were also thinking about taking a trip out there to pick up the tin ceilings when they're done. I can make it one big shopping trip maybe! I'm looking for something that will withstand every day use, for sure.

I'll check out the pics of your bath too. :)

Thanks!

Jessica
