Since it was old plaster, I used oil based primer as it was told to me by a Benjamin Moore rep that latex doesn't adhere to old plaster walls. The problem is when you put oil over latex that problems arise!! So that's why oil first then latex second!!
If you use new green board then plaster, you can use latex. Although when I remodeled our bathroom I still used an oil based primer. That was almost 2.5 years ago and the bath walls still look great!! Good luck!
Good to know info. I may give that a shot since the next room I am doing will be more than just practice this time around. I heard that Ben Moore paint was one of the best to use.
Did you use a roller or spray it on? The only thing I don't like about using a roller is the texture it leaves on my new smooth walls :(
Thanks again for the info! I am going to have to do some experiments!

The reply button wasn't at the end of your last post so....I used a roller but the key to a roller is to wrap it with masking tape-sticky side on the roller-to remove any lint on the roller-works great! Two coats of paint also helps greatly. I've used a roller on all of the old plaster walls without any texture left behind! I've also used a primer plus two coats of paint. I agree Benjamin Moore is good paint, Pratt and Lambert's top paint is also good.
I surmise that the reason those companies are rated high is that they are not big box stores with inexperienced help mixing your paint color!! Especially if using more than one can of paint! But if I am using more than one can, I mix each can together in a bucket. You then can use Press and Seal to cover the top if you don't finish all of your painting in one day!

thanks again for the info! I Think there is a Ben Moore store around here somewhere. We used some valspar from lowe's to do the kitchen and it came out ok. But for the rooms with more traffic, I want the paint to be "better". The kitchen is still my practice room.. and that is one reason why it isn't totally finished yet lol.
Good ideas for the tape and the press n seal stuff. Never thought of that :)
