My Old House Online

An online community for people who love old houses.

My new puppy is not quite house trained, and he’s ruining my floors! I’ve got hardwood floors with oriental rugs. Oriental rugs are really hard to clean, and I’m afraid I’m going to ruin them. The smell is terrible and I just want a clean house again. Can anyone recommend a solution? Help!

I've tried Nature's Miracle, which can be found at PetCo and PetSmart. You will have to pour it on to completely wet the stained/smelly spot, but once it dries the smell is usually gone. I've used it on my pooch's puddles.

Have you not got a room that hasn't got a wooden floor? Could you not buy some 'cheap' vinyl flooring until the puppy is house trained. It should only take about 6 weeks to train him/her anyhow.
