Kevin,

My house is also equipped with these tracks on the inside.  They are indeed for screens.  Lucky for me, in my attic, I have a huge stack of all the original screens that were hand made for the house (even the curved ones for the turret windows).  I only use a couple of them, however, since most of my windows have modern storms and screens on the outside.

As for their "availability," they would have to be hand made.  My screens are made from roughly 1x2 frames and have a corresponding slot that fits into the "track."  They should be easy enough to make if you have a miter saw, a router, and a staple gun.

I can take some pictures of mine if you need more help.

thanks for the input, I thought I would get more response !!  I'm pretty handy and would like to see a photo if its not too much to ask.                                           thanks  kevin

Here are pics of my screen frames and tracks.  Pretty simple system.  Not totally fool proof in practice, though, since you still have the gaps that are created between the two sashes and between the lower sash and the screen.  Of course, you could always stuff a towel in these gaps.
