My Old House Online

An online community for people who love old houses.

My husband and I recently purchased this home. The info we have shows it was built in 1900. The inside has been totally gutted, so we don't have much to work with.

Loosely classified as "Victorian." There are queen Anne elements, notably the asymmetrical arrangement, but is is probably considered "stick style". It may be a bit earlier than 1900, the examples below date from 1885, which is on the tail end of this style's popularity. There are lots of pattern book reprints from Dover publishing which would help you restore the interior. Much of the interior woodwork in houses like this was mass produced, so most mills which have been around for a long time have a very good chance of being able to reproduce it for you.

I would say Queen Anne. I could only imagine what the body of the house was like before the siding with that wonderful Barge Board trim they left. Best of luck!

I'm guessing that sun room looking room above was once a covered open porch, but I could be wrong...

Its basically a Queen Anne/Folk Victorian style. I can guarantee you that your porches have been totally remuddled and teh originals looked nothing like the ones now. Likely turned columns and possibly balustrades. The small flay roof over your little 3-sided bump out is unliklikely to be original and was probably once much more interesting. You may have a lot of "stick" style ornamentation under that siding.

I agree with the others. Queen Anne Folk Victorian. Probably from around 1890 or so. Looks like there was once a porch wrapping around it. It also looks like the previous owners removed as much of the Victorian ornamentation as they could reach. The top of the house still retains some of its Victorian charm.

Much of the gingerbread ornamentation is also missing from my home. I'm also missing a wraparound porch. In researching the style of my home I've found a few pictures along the way that have given me something to eventually shoot for. I attached a picture of a house that looks similar to yours that might give you an idea of where your're heading.

Your house may have been stripped of it's Victorian style both inside and out, but what great potential!
