a lot of the victorian homes had different styles of design that also the designs in the hardware pre 1860's the hardware was pretty plain smooth brass knobs alot shipped in from England, porclain knobs black white swirl, some glass clear and colored, s well as mercury. 1870 there were patents on designs of doorknob hardware. the classic doggy doorknob was patented on June 7th 1870 by L. Kruezinger design patent #4098 also on the same day same person design patent was granted design patent #4097 for the lion doorknob. which were both done by MCCCo & R & E hardware company for several years. there were fancy knobs made before this most info has been lost over the last 140 years tho they still are searching over the next 50+ years they made they guess 4-5000 different designs of doorknobs, and they made several different sizes from doorbell/ closet knobs to the lg 3"+ dia entrance knobs along with all the other matching hardware parts.

I will do more history later

Jewelry is right. QWwe were so lucky to have nearly all of our hardware intact and working, albeit very dirty. I desided on polishing and painting the background black and clear lacquer. Most think its new and do not know how much time I put into them.

There is no name published for that pattern just an Id number H-220a in Leonard Blumin's Book Victorian Decorative Art.

All the Len said about it is " Vernacular school of design, made by norwalk, domed version of a popular vernacular design ribbed design on knob back very similar to H-256" it would have been made in the 1880's
