Thanks Helen,

It is a Brown Bess flintlock replica, sans the bayonet.  There is now a black Napoleon wood stove in place of the burgundy Vermont castings which has now been placed in another fireplace. I need to update my photos as i make improvements to the old home.

You are most welcome. In 1950 the Murdock family restored the home in the first period style. I have recently discovered that some of the original features were slightly covered up, but again, very well done.  It is hard to come across a home of this age in such good shape. The Murdock family relatives still come to visit the farm, all the way from Georgia! Without this family I would be guessing at restorations but they have provided photos and info needed to do it properly. How wonderful is that!
