Comment by Dick Russell on November 21, 2011 at 9:40pm The little guy that looks so innocent is me! I have little recollection of the house, as my grandpa died in '63 and the place was sold not too long after that, but we have an uncle that spent a lot of his youth in that house and can surely give some great info on what was where, as well as some great anecdotes. He lives nearby- Canisteo, and if you like, we can try to set up a time for a visit. Be in touch.
Thanks for doing the old Russell Homestead justice. I do know that every stick of wood in the (old) place was from timber from the original farm. Is there still diagonal cherry in the room where the stairway is? Looking forward to hearing from you!

I don't know, I see a little mischief in those eyes!! This is a great picture, I am so happy to have a few pictures of the house in its golden days... we hope to have her looking like new very soon!!! Would love to show you and your uncle around the house and hear some good stories of it as well.
Comment by jane on November 22, 2011 at 7:38pm can Dick Russell tell us about the 3 cats, 2 at the base of the tree, and one to the right of the girls' heads? are they toys? ornaments? maybe real?
Comment by Lu MacNaughton on December 11, 2011 at 2:19am they were garden ornaments...they were made out of some kind of cement stuff and painted. the two at the bottom of the tree are supposed to be puppies barking...and the cat hung on a nail driven into the tree....I grew up with a set in our yard too, probably a gift from my grandmother Kate Russell.
