Found 1870's Wainscote!

I was fortunate this Summer (2009) to find, remove and purchase around 300 sq.ft. of 1870's-era Wainscote (sp?), and hope to use it to finish our 18' x 20' x 7' Attic Room. The Attic had been infested with Bats forever, (since 1893,) and they had to be erradicated, (or relocated.) The hardwood floor was refinished about 8 years ago, and the roof was recently torn-off and replaced correctly. The Wainscote was found at the Union 'County House,' built around 1869, near Afton, IA. Also, some large…See More

Yes , they used to have a house in Red Oak. I'll show you the pictures some time. The house was on Coolbaugh.if you are familar with Red Oak. It was really a beautiful house.
It was several years ago. They sold it because it cost too much to heat. I can imagine what it would cost now.

Yes Bob, I am very familiar with some of the 'Victorians' in Red Oak, IA (and some would be real 'Barn-Burners' to heat.) That is when you shut off all rooms, and live in the kitchen. I guess that defeats the purpose of all of the Queen Anne Grandure, (except maybe for 'Curb Appeal!') In the 'Barbie Doll House," they once tore out the 'Fireplace Mantle' to burn it as heat, during the War, (or something like that.) There are a couple of 'Frankenstien Style' Houses there, that are bigger than for any practical purpose. The Santa Fe(?) Railroad House there is exceptional in Quality and Style, (it even has Curved-Corner-Double-Hung Windows.) Painted-Lady Paradise!

This is an unique home. Would this home be considered one of the Victorian styles? Very nice.

Yes, we see so many possibilities and can't wait to see them in completion! We are fortunate enough to have some pictures from the "early years" so we have a head start on our ideas!
