"Some very fancy houses in my PA town had cherry or mahogany woodwork in select rooms, but that is a level above your and my houses. Lower end houses just used pine or poplar even in the main rooms. Some areas made use of chestnut, which is similar…"

"Thanks for the info Phil! As far as I can tell, the only places where the wood work was painted from the beginning was perhaps the kitchen. Those are the only windows in the whole house that are just plan double hung windows. All the wood work…"

Our House, the TV star.

Down the road from us is another old house, older than ours -- 1790s. Recently the owners held an antiques sale on their front lawn, so we stopped in and introduced ourselves as the new people in the "old yellow house down the street."
