"My house is covered in paneling.  There was so much else to do, though, that we're saving that project for a later day (summertime maybe?).  I primed and painted over all the paneling for a quick fix and it worked well.  I am…"

"I do not claim to have ANY good advice for repairing this- what we did worked for us, though.  We pulled off the plaster that was loose or damaged and pieced in drywall and skim coated over it.  We left gaps between the drywall edges and…"

" I think it is the way the siding is applied that makes it look so strange. If you were to put a trim board from eve to eve, with fish scale shingles above it, then put 2 large brackets below it to support the roof, it would look very different."

I just bought an old home in town and have just started the process of bringing it back to life. I realize this will be a LONG journey, but it's one that I enjoy. I have absolutely no idea what I'm doing and have been relying on my sister, who I've found is the guru of all things Old House related!

Yep, that's my sister - with two AWESOME kids, and yes, Dexter is one naughty cat. :D. Well, I'm not the *guru*, on all things old house, but I've sure met quite a few on this site. Thanks for posting your pics! I can't wait to see your house next time I'm in MI.
