please help I don't know where to turn
I live in what can be called one of the oldest houses in the United States, especially NY at that. My house is one with a unique tale. It was once owned by the Blauvelt Family. Jacob Blauvelt who had lived in the house about 3/4 a mile away, had his brother and family living in my house. This means the house has ties all the way back with Dutch roots. My house honestly looks like it would be in the movie "The Patriot". I've heard and seen such evidence of other cool history about the house such as: has a secret side room where abolitionists hid slaves (supposedly I've heard there is a secret entrance once in the room somewhere which leads to a tunnel to another house in the town where they would transport runaway slaves back and forth for security from authorities), was the stay and hq for British officers during the revolutionary war, I've seen black and white pictures of how the aristocratic owners in the 1920's and 30's would lounge around the pool which is now a waterfall but back then was like one of those cool overflowing tubs. I think many of guests by the pool were movie stars also because I know back in the 20's and 30's Adolph Zukor had his estate literally down the road with his major Hollywood companies "Paramount Pictures" located there. Even recently a few years back a director came to my house and told my dad that a Russian spy mystery that their making a movie about leads the last clues to my house... he said there was a Russian plane they are looking for that a Russian Spy has used. Anyway why I wrote this thread is that my house is in a decaying state and the history will perish with it. The chandelier nearly fell on my sister when she was walking down the stairs one day. Walls and ceilings are falling apart all over and living in the house is the worst nightmare imaginable. My parents originally had plans of doing so much to the house to restore it to it's original prestige, yet the economy had other plans. Now my parents have enough trouble just paying the utility bill and just recently our power was temporary terminated because we couldn't pay the bill (around $1,500 a month...I know thats out of control), it's all because of the constant space heaters and the drafts everywhere which make the house cold. Living in the house has taken such a toll on me socially, mentally, and physically because for the majority of my life I lived in an unfinished falling apart house (do you know how hard it was in high school to have a girlfriend that you could never bring home to house because you were so embarrassed?, when they would ask to meet my family I'de have to always say maybe we can all go out sometime or I'de lie and always get asked the question, "Why can't we just go to your house?"... still to this day I have no reply). I would wake up sometimes in the middle of the night because it would get so cold in my room. Life was just hell. I've never been one to sit back and let life control my fate. In highschool I was the Student Council President and at Clarkstown North in 2008 we were able to stand up to our school being in decaying state. A dead rat fell onto a girl's desk and we've been having facility problems for decades. We'll me and my fellow students wouldn't have it, so we did a non-violent protest walkout-out. Our walkout made national news and immediately after the walk out had taken place the school district an emergency meeting to find out a way to fix our school. At the meeting money was allocated for our school and we had won the battle. So what I am now on a quest to do is to fix my house through any means possible. I am asking anyone out there who knows what steps I should do to maybe get a town or state or even federal grant to fix my very old and historic house. In the name of the good thats left in humanity is there anyone out there who could possible help me? Please.... I'm only a college student with a huge love for history, my house, and my family. What any decent American holds to hope onto in their future... Please if there is help out there e-mail me at, Bulb70@aol.com, any help is really appreciated
I will be posting pictures of the house soon and more historical details will be added up. I just have to stop at the archives when I get a chance between my class schedule. For many of you who could care less about my house or it's history, sorry I wasted your time but this is my life I'm trying to fix
