"Your kitchen is wonderful!!  Keep those cabinets and the sink!  My 1910 kitchen was modernized and I tried to bring it back to a 1920's look, but there is nothing like the real thing.  As hard as you try, it's still just an…"

"Ken, This is an excellent idea.  I have a local guy in mind to add to your database.  I will contact him and make sure he is ok with giving out his information.  He rebuilds double hungs from scratch, if necessary. Keep up the hard…"

Ken the Old House Guy replied to Holly Ulrich's discussion Varnish Stripping Residue Problem
"This may sound very lame, but it may be worth a try.   1)Re-apply the same stripper you were using in a generous amount.  2)Let is sit on the wood the recommended time. 3) Remove stripper in even wipes, then wipe down evenly with a mildly…"

Ken the Old House Guy replied to PStewart's discussion What will you do about compact fluorescent lights?
"My earlier post about round frosted light bulbs being used in chandeliers and wall sconces was wrong.  I was using old movies as my guide.  Apparently there were pointed bulbs on the market in 1920 - guess the movie sets did not use them…"

Ken the Old House Guy replied to PStewart's discussion What will you do about compact fluorescent lights?
"There really is not that much information out there on light bulbs - at least the information I like to see.  I have Sears Catalogs etc and the pages or info on light bulbs are always missing.  My best source is old movies.  For…"

"It's a labor of love! So many people want a historic home, but the first thing they do is replace the windows and try to make it into a new home.  Old house living is not for everybody, and I can understand that.  I just wish they…"

I like your house! It looks kind of like mine. I have been trying to find other houses similar to mine. I agree with you about old houses and modern conveniences. If someone wants newer stuff, then they should buy a newer house!!

I am going to check out your site! I want to start my own site once I get things up and running back in the states. I am lucky that my father in law is a licensed contractor and is going to help my wife and I out a WHOLE lot!!! He is also going to do the electrical.

I am sure there will be a lot of interesting finds in my old house as I begin the resto. I think that comes with all old houses.. sometimes you find a lot more bad things than good, but its all part of the game :)
