We have really noisy, bouncy floors. In our bedroom, my husband drilled holes and countersunk screws (our hardwood floors are 3/4 inch thick, so there is plenty of flooring to work with) into the joists. He then put dowls into the holes and cut/sand…

Our home has almost all of the original plaster from 1906. We spent two years on the main room restoring the twelve foot tall plaster walls. When it was finished, it was beautiful. Within a year cracks appeared again and small bits and pieces broke…

Profile Information

Tell us about yourself:
I've been a do-it-yourselfer for over 30 years. I have also been a general contractor with three new houses under my belt. I prefer old houses/buildings, that is why my husband and I live in and are restoring an old hotel built in 1906. It was once considered the grandest hotel on the Soo railroad between Minneapolis and Seatle.
Tell us about your old-house experiences and dreams:
We have spent the last three years getting to know our old house and work on basic plumbing, heating, and electrical needs. Now we are in the process of restoring our home room-by-room. At our current pace it should take about twenty years.
