"Although I prefer the quarter sawn oak (have it myself in my living room) I have seen Bradbury and Bradbury wall paper, lincrusta, decorative plaster techniques (like Venetian), grass cloth, burlap and even leather. If this is in the kitchen I would…"

Lynne Allison replied to Adrienne M's discussion Insulating original windows
"Interesting point I had not considered. I have yet to notice any moisture but the pockets are definitely not sealed up absolutely airtight. You are the first I've ever heard say this and I did my research before installing the insulation."

Lynne Allison replied to Adrienne M's discussion Insulating original windows
"You'd have to pull off the face trim and pull out what you needed to get to the broken one and then re-foam. I'd replace all the sash-cords with new prior to doing this so the chances of the cord breaking would be pretty slim, or replace…"

Lynne Allison replied to Adrienne M's discussion Insulating original windows
"You have to be really careful when you do this. I did it with 1/4" rigid foam and despite checking and rechecking the fit as the window were used and the weights moved they eventually jammed up. In retrospect what I should have done was used…"

Lynne Allison replied to Jim Finley's discussion Ever encounter old house snobbery?
"The snobbery I've run into is that my house isn't on THE national register, isn't historically or even architecturally significant, certainly isn't fancy and at around 98 years old isn't old enough to really matter. One…"

Lynne Allison replied to PJ Steen's discussion Weird interior "door" in 1920 Brick House
"I have a similar but not exact arrangement in my 1910ish bungalow. There's a smaller than normal door from the back porch that opens (well, used to) into what is now a very small half bath. We finally determined that it was for grocery…"

Lynne Allison replied to Richard Pryor's discussion Heresy! Yet, I have to consider it.
"I don't think it's heresy. After all, you don't live in a museum. Can you imagine living 18th century style. Ugh! Here's my solution for you. Buy neutral foundation furniture (couch, love-seat, chair, etc) and accessorize with…"

Lynne Allison replied to Chrissa's discussion What is this house?
"I agree, I think the side door was the original entrance. When you enter from the side what does the interior space look like."

Lynne Allison replied to Chrissa's discussion What is this house?
"Most assuredly not a Foursquare. Not sure if there is a specific name for this rather ubiquitous type of house. Hopefully someone smarter than I will pop in soon. Is it yours?"

Lynne Allison replied to Phil's discussion What paints are folks using and why?
"I used Benjamin Moore "MooreGard" exterior acrylic nearly ten years ago. It has held up very well except where we have had a moisture problem (roof leak) and a few spots on the southern exposure which since it's such a small area may…"

Wonder bar 1...right ring finger 0

The title says it all. Busted my finger while pulling nails with a wonder bar. Stubborn nail popped and bar struck said finger. Finger now has an extra knuckle (ie. bends where it shouldn't). Old houses are wonderful aren't they?!See More
