We started demo on the kitchen today, as far as the house goes it is in the worst shape. Amazing how many layers of wallpaper you can pack on 1 wall!

Will H said… Hey Megan! Now that spring is here, have you 2 decided on house colors yet?
Will H said… Yeah I saw! Your progress is astounding! I'm so jealous of the talent you guys have! It's coming along nicely!
Well once the nice weather stays for good, painting on Ravenwood will commence. I'll be also fixing the cracks in the garage (concrete block) and painting it to match the house this summer as well. Hoping to get the back porch built and the privacy fence up but we'll see. We haven't done a darn thing to the inside yet (waiting on a few contractors to get back to me) but we're hoping to have the bathroom redone this summer. We FINALLY found a really nice 4 1/2 foot clawfoot tub to fit in the bathroom! The bathroom is the first room that MUST be done due to the location of it and the rooms that need the most work (plumbing for the tub leaks). After that I'd like to do the kitchen and butler's pantry, both of which are below the bathroom and laundry rooms.
Those colors sound nice! I'm not a huge fan of green as a rule but I do confess I LOVE dark green, especially with burgandy accents. As I've stated before, classic colors are great but I really go for what I like, classic or not. I've found that sometimes newer colors can accentuate an older house even better then the classic colors. I've never known my house to be any other colors but green and white. The windows were trimmed in black when I was a kid too. Since I have vinyl windows now, it stays the white they were made to be. It worked out alright I guess!
It's funny but I sometimes look at peoples homes (both on here and in my neighborhood) and try to decide what color I'd paint their houses, so it's always interesting to hear what other's thoughts are on colors for the same house!
Will H said… Yes you are VERY fortunate to have family that can do that! I have a close friend who's a master electrician so he's been doing all my electrical at cost. I'm going to hire a contractor to tackle both my bathroom and the kitchen/butler's pantry. I'm not too bad when it comes to demo and even hanging drywall but plumbing for me is a challenge. We have a really small bathroom (there's a pic on a thread started by Tridog of it but can't remember the name) and we have a very small guest room beside it. We were going to blow out the wall between and make a bigger bath however since it's a load bearing wall, and a pain to do here (permits and so forth) we decided to keep it original. For the small guest room, we made it into a laundry room which I love because I only have to walk to the end of the hall to do laundry now!
As for my kitchen, it's very small too. We just bought a new refridgerator which was the first step in redoing the kitchen (the old one was WAY too big for the kitchen) so we can at least start measuring for cabinents and so on. We have practically no cabinents in our house for the kitchen (3 to be precise) so the pantry will come in helpful. To me, the inside is the challenge. I've never done work like that, and I'm always afraid of messing it up and having it cost more money to fix.
To me, the outside wasn't challenging at all. I knew the colors I wanted going into it so it just all came together for me. Blues and greys are always nice together and a pretty safe bet! I'm glad you like the outside of my place, it's always nice to hear! We didn't get to finish painting it last year so it'll be finished this year. We also have to rebuild the back porch so that's a project this summer as well. We're also going to be fixing the cracks in the garage and painting it to match the house. I love your house and always thought if it were mine, I'd probably paint it a deep/dark red with cream/beige and smokey/dark grey for the trim (especially around the windows). I, however have demented taste in color though. lol.
Here's a few random pics of Ravenwood House both inside and out. The toilet pics with the copper pipes coming down are of my Butler's Pantry which they had made a half bath years ago. It'll be ripped out in favor of the pantry. When you look at my main bathroom, look how tiny the tub is! It blew me away! The yellow icky room is the Butler's Pantry (before being gutted). The bathtub is right above it and leaked so it's going when the bathroom is replaced (we have a shower downstairs).
