"Have you tried just soaking them in plain water for a couple of days?  Plaster is affected by water and so is the old fashioned grout. "

"Good for you to work to reuse the tiles. Too many details to write in this space,  but i would use a diamond blade in a circular saw with shop vac, and i would cut a series of slots in the back of the well soaked slab.  The majority will…"

"Thank you very much.  I am thinking it is plaster too.  I hope it is.  I have some big hunks with as much as a 6 inch backing so I was going to try water with one of the smaller pieces. "
