Radiant barriers under a tin roof
2 Replies

I've read where radiant barriers intstalled in attics will only increase the surface temperature on a roof by 2-5 degrees F, however this is on a shingle roof.  Does anyone know if it is a bad idea…Continue

"I wouldn't say using a cistern for something other than water is destroying an old house.  If you're so insistant upon keeping the exact character and function in an old house, i'm sure you don't have any kind of moden HVAC,…"

"BAD idea! Reflecting the heat back to the roof is nearly as bad as allowing heat to accumulate in insulation and reradiate into the living area. You have a metal roof, why let heat past it when you can keep it out nearly completely by sprinkling the…"

"I have a cistern under what will be my kitchen.  There is already a square cut out of the flooring and a circle cut in the top of it for access.  It has no water functionality to it any more and a few old animal bones inside, but I plan to…"

I've read where radiant barriers intstalled in attics will only increase the surface temperature on a roof by 2-5 degrees F, however this is on a shingle roof.  Does anyone know if it is a bad idea to install a radiant barrier to the under side of a truss on a tin roof?

Guidance to restore 1839 house to period

I purchased a home (Charleston Single) that was built in 1839 in Charleston, SC almost 2 years ago.  I have spent that time gutting it, as unfortunately, it was not cared for over the years.  The work done over the last 30 years on the house was done poorly.  Windows were put in wrong, siding was mismatched and wasn't caulked right, termites had a grand time in some places, and floors were messed up in places. Not to mention the majority of the original plaster was removed and replaced with…See More
