Thanks for posting the video...whoa, I have a lot to do with getting out some of that old portland cement, with which someone had parged over some of our basement masonry. Fortunately no one had done anything with most of our basement, which apparen…

Rob, good video. This is the first time I've seen that mortar saw in action. Thanks. But, repointing doesn't always have to be considered expensive. In fact it's misleading to characterize this kind of good maintenance and preservation as "expensiv…

Impressions Of An Old House Fair

I live in the Lehigh Valley. The area north of Philadelphia and west of NYC by about 70 miles. Easton, Bethlehem and Allentown have many 18th century buildings. The Parson-Taylor house was the home of one of Easton’s founders and also that of George Taylor a signer of the Declaration of Independence. Still, with all this history we are behind other communities in caring for our architectural gems. Yesterday, March 28th I spent the day in the Germantown section of Philadelphia at the Old House Fa… Continue

What Does the Economic Stimulus Package Mean to Traditional Building

I just received another notice about the upcoming Traditional Building Conference in Boston. I am expecting to go to the conference and I am sure I will learn a lot about products and maybe something about the future of the preservation movement. Still, like most contractors I am concerned about the economy and how it will be affecting upcoming job opportunities.
