Just thought I would update my research on the house. Looking at a build date of 1911. There was an existing house here before but it was either completly removed or the builders did a very good job of hiding any trace of it. Thanks to all that offe…
Looks like a foursquare with an extra fancy portico and porch, with some craftsman and colonial revival features. Try finding some older photos before all the detail and trim was covered up. Looks like 1920's, give or take.
Seth, There is a house that looks alot like yours in Powder Springs, Georgia. You can look at it on Google Street View if you go to 4418 Marietta Street. Of course this beautiful house has been a funeral home for decades and painted all white. It ha…
My father has told me that when visiting or driving through a town you used to always be able to spot a funeral home from a distance, because they were the only well-maintained victorian homes until a couple of decades ago. My sense now is that fune…
Just a thought about funeral homes that might apply:
Around here the family lived upstairs at the funeral home and often had a room out in the front which had a good view of the road. The homes had often started out as private homes and the little…
First I want to thank everyone for all of the information. Some follow up items are that the door frames on the inside and out of the window room door are the same. I know that it was enclosed with windows in the late 1950's and there is a nice view…
there was a very similar home in Bowman Georgia that I looked at, and I believe there are one or two members of this site who have similar looking homes. The columns on the home in Bowman were a little more detailed than yours, but that home was a N…
Playing off of Jane's comments, it strikes me that the place to look for a clue is the door to your sewing room. We can see from your old photo that it was an open porch early on and now it is enclosed. So, the window casings in that room may or may…
another thought:
Is/was there a view from the second floor? a viewing porch ( an 'observatory') would be a possibility for that little room.
If your roof has a flat space at the top where all the slopes come together, do you have a skylight there?…
I would say it was built between 1905 and 1915. The window and door casings are late Victorian, still sides and header, but without the corner blocks or fancy profile shapes that were popular before 1900. The main shape of the house is 4-square, als…
It looks to me like the 2 story columns were added to the 4 square house to make it "grander". If you visually remove it from the picture the house looks right.
I have to agree with Phil. A lot of it looks very 4 square, with some elaborate details. I wasn't sure if the interior shots showed any colonial revival though. Do you have a shot of the staircase by any chance? It is a very nice house, and quite un…
Thank you for your reply. To answer you’re questions I'm not shure what style the interior is. I'm a bit lacking in my knowledge of styles so I have added some more photos. To answer your question about the window room as we call it the previous own…
My wife and I live in a small town in west central Illinois with our two kids.
Tell us about your old-house experiences and dreams:
I have always been facinated with older homes. When I was a kid my grandma and I would visit abandoned homes that she or her relatives had previousle lived in.
