"No, that is not the brick I'm refering to. What I'm looking for are cement blocks that have a "rock" or rough looking exterior. The color is a grey cement. They have been used in constructing the foundatation above ground …"

"Good, what you described I have seen in new construction so you should be able to find some palce closer to your locale that makes/supplies them. Heck Home Depot may even carry them."

"Bill,   Thanks a million for finding and sharing this Web site.  I stand corrected, the blocks are approximately 26" x 8". Amcon appears to make blocks using the same facing as our period blocks. I will contact them and see what…"

Exterior brick used in 1913 - where can I find it?

We have a garage built in 1913 made of cement brick. It has a rough, rock looking exterior. The size is roughly 16" in length. We need to find or make replacement brick. With regard to making the brick, is there a mold available? If so, where would I find such a mold? Is there a manufacturer that makes reproduction brick such as the brick we are looking for? Thanks for your suggestions. SheilaSee More

We just completed the restoration of the south porch which included reconstructing the columns, build a new deck and replacing the flooring. We are now working on the east porch that requires the same restoration work.

How to install spring bronze weatherstripping to a door jamb

We are weatherstripping our door jambs and using the spring bronze weatherstripped. This is what was originally installed, however, it needs to be replaced. We need to know how to install the weatherstripping around or over the door hinges. I have searched the internet for suggestions but I have found nothing. Any suggestions?

Thanks.

Porch Flooring Alternative

My husband and I are restoring a house built in 1913 in Tecumseh, Nebraska. One of our many projects involves replacing the porch and deck flooring. The porch/deck system wraps 3/4 of the way around the house and only one section is covered by a porch roof.

One of the criteria for the replacement flooring was that the same material could be used in a tongue and groove (T&G) configuration as well as a 1x4 deck configuration. The traditional choice for T&G is Douglas Fir, but… Continue

Sheila,

Techumseh is one of my favorite towns. I grew up in Lincoln, but we often visited family friends there in Techumseh. I don't recall their name but I do remember the brick paving on Broadway down town, catching bullheads and swiming in the Nemaha (get to the swiming hole by taking the path down at the end of Clay Street?), and getting milk and a piece of pie at the cafe, maybe it was the soda fountain at the drugstore on the corner. On hot summer evenings we would set up a projector in a vacant lot down town and show a movie on the side of the building. There were old phone poles laid out to sit on (watch out for the splinters!), crowds of kids and parents would come. Someone would bring a big cardboard box of popcorn, it was loads of fun, a regular riot ! That was back in the 1950s, I wonder if it's still the same there in Tecumseh..
