- I have a strong interest in history and real estate,thus buying a home in a Historical District is the realization of a long-held dream. I am a strong advocate of urban homesteading, "going green" and historical preservation and seek to find creative solutions to balance those ideals.
- Tell us about your old-house experiences and dreams:
- I am a first-time homeowner of an itty-bitty 1884 2-story Worker's Cottage, originally built as a boarding house, in January of 2012 in a Historical District of St. Paul, Minnesota. The historical fire insurance maps show this house once had a front porch which curved around the corner onto a triangle block, so I am purposing to recreate that and also replace the front door and windows with historical-accurate units. The original windows/door were torn out by a slum landlord and replaced with vinyl/steel units with fill wood added to accomidate smaller windows, I'll be going back to the original dimensions. Landscaping & fencing, including urban chickens(!) will follow the porch/windows/door projects.
