Appraisals for Old Homes

We are currently in the processing of refinancing our house to take advantage of lower interest rates and to cut in half our loan life. As part of that process, an appraisal was required. No problem,…Continue

We've lived in old houses ever since we were married except for a three-year stint in the late 90's. We have a love/hate relationship with our existing home but couldn't imagine living in a cracker box new home. We've managed roughly one large project or room per year. It's been ten years thus far and we are only about half done. Although my home is not National Register material, palatial, or grand, it's home and we've brought it back from the brink of the abyss through blood, sweat, and tears. (And lots of money...)

"Or double the fun (and cost) with two units. My house has been equipped with two since the '70's. If I had had the funds when I replaced them, I would have moved the upper floor unit into the attic, but that was $10K more."

Traditional Varnish Source

Well, since I can't seem to find a way to search the forums, I was hoping someone would know of a source for traditional varnishes. I'm pretty sure that I've heard of (and seen) these before here (and perhaps elsewhere) but I'm having difficulty locating them now. Google tends to favor modern forms of the product... Any help is appreciated. Thanks!See More

BenningtonColonial replied to Tina's discussion How can I repurpose my pocket doors?

I was so glad to see the Vistorian home I relocated there went to people who are taking care of it. Considering how anti preservation Temecula has proven to be, I'm looking forward to moving from here. I found a wonderful Victorian Home back east, in an area that actually wants to see these old buildings saved. I have had the good fortune to have a developer open a sale on my land to buy my property to build the affordible housing our city council is so crazy about. In six weeks, I'll know for sure.
