ruth miller replied to Kathy Keen's discussion How should I finish the wide-plank, unfinished wood floor in my attic?
"I looked at the pics of your attic floor. I had a similar floor in the attic of a 100 yr old house. I cleaned it and layed large rugs down on 3/4 of it. My children and their friends found the attic to be the best playroom in the house !"

Martin replied to ruth miller's discussion piano window hinges
"Phil, your description of the windows sounds a lot like my stained glass windows. I have yet to see how they use to open, since they put moulding around them to keep them from tilting open. Maybe I will need piano hinges too."

Profile Information

Tell us about yourself:
I've loved old houses forever. I grew up in a 2 story Victorian, circa 1883. It had 13 ft ceilings !
I am almost finished with the restoration of my 1910 Dutch Colonial Revival, in Idianapolis. Once it's done and sold, I am moving to a one horse town way down at the bottom of the state of IN.
Tell us about your old-house experiences and dreams:
Well, the house was a disaster when I bought it 16 yrs ago. We had to major clean just to live in it. After 3 months of getting rid of all the trash from previous owners, we began restoration. With little to no money, we marched on day after day, week after week,.....you get the idea. Now the house looks very nice. Still have a few things to do...........more than I want to do...I'm tired !

my house

When my spouse and I bought this house, 16 years ago, it was a dream come true. It was large enough for a family of five, with large back yard. However, it has been the traditional "needful thing". It's kept us mighty broke in many areas ! I'm soo tired of working on it, but I can't stop. HELP !
There are so many things I want to do for this house, but money is the great POOBAH, that tells me what HAS to be done.........
