We finished the demo on this little pyramid cottage - knocking it back to its 1900 roots. We had an architect (who has a pyramid cottage office!) develop conceptual plans that are sensitive to the original style. The structure of the house (plank construction) has been so compromised, we're not really sure why the roof is staying up! The drop-lap siding is pretty much hacked up and has huge damage by termites (which previous owners covered up with asbestos shingles and then vinyl siding).
Our plan is to save the roof, but remove the planks and replace them with 2 x 4 standard construction. This makes me a bit sad, as the planks were an important part of the house fabric. I'm going to explore the feasibility of reusing the planks - however, they are riddled with tacks (muslin and then wallpaper) and 100 years of nails, so don't know if I want to chance ruining my planner blades.
We're now waiting for plan approval. Am anxious to get started!
