Nearly complete, were waiting about the floors till all the roome are done. The ceilings were a mess with a cheaply done texture job that took a couple of weeka to scrape off then float out. Also installed a gold and pale green willow paper on them . The plaster walls had to be stripped, sealed and primed before reproduction 1890s Silver Studios paper was hung. All the quartered oak woodwork had a good cleaning to remove the old coal soot from the cracks and varnished. the mantle had been poorly refinished about 20yr ago and had runs and a lot of black from an old leak. Once stripped and refinished the birch glowed. Original tiles had to be reset and the old firebox cleaned out.The pocket doors have been thru lots of work by me to get them rolling again. New detailed crown was painted and detailed then hung. This room is a southern exposure and gets a lot of light thru the three large stain glass windows, so we wanted a soft look that would feel comftrable in the summer. Picked colors for drapery and upholstery from wallpaper background. Lota fun!

That is gorgeous. I love your house - I wonder if mine is a Stick-style Victorian, too (but not as large and fancy as yours!). Do you know what year yours was built?

I checked out your blog - we have the same mantel clock! I found mine at an antique shop and it just seemed "right" for our mantel, too, and at the time had no idea how old it is. I love the gong. Unfortunately, the face was too worn on mine so I had the face replaced.

Hi Red Queen, and Thanks! Ours was built in 1893 from a George Barber plan. Yes your pretty house has Stick style details to, especially in the gables where the trim boards simulate timberframe construction of houses from europe.

Beautiful room and just at a time when I needed the inspiration and motivation to finally get my parlor finished.

Thanks Charles J, Glad to have been of help! : ) This room was just part time as I have been on the front porch for three years and counting.

I have a question about the ceilings... You said the ceilings had a bad texture job on them..... I'm wondering if we will need to sand ours or scrap them or what, because they did the same thing in ours. It's not cottage cheese, but more like a "new build" texture. Thanks.
