Comment by Ann Cleaves on April 19, 2011 at 11:34am The Old House poem which was on a wall of the Hartwell Farms restaurant was written by Isabel Fiske Conant.
The foundation hole and massive chimney are part of the Minute Man National Park. Having waitressed there as a high school student in the early 1960s I have always been curious about the place.
The Cary Library in Lexington has a book written by Marion Fitch, one of the two owners called "Hartwell Farm...A Way of Life" which contains her memories, photos and recipes provides the info on page 50 about "The Mural Room":
"a poem written by Isabel Fiske Conant, which starts with 'He who loves an old house,' which was signed by Mrs Conant when she visited"...
The info is a bit late. Hope it is still useful.
